As we are not coastal we do have to travel a little.
The nearest and best organised is TBAY at Tramore beach (120 km). There is a very good surf shop there, Bernie runs it and is very helpful. Phone 051-391011 website is http://www.tramoresurfshop.com/ They have surf reports on this site, also there is a surf school and dressing rooms and showers that anyone can use for just €2. Their website is http://www.surftbay.com/ They also hire Boards and wetsuits for €20, so if you are a beginner all you need is your towel and swimsuit and you are set to go.
Next place after that is Lahinch (185 km), good website with updated daily picture and webcam . http://www.lahinchsurfshop.com/lahinch/
Good surf shops and places for lessons and hire, no dressing facilities there yet.
After that Strandhill in Sligo is (195 km) which is definitely worth a trip.
It gets harder beyond these places to do day trips, and will usually have to be an overnight stay.
We have gone to Achill in Mayo , Inchydoney in West Cork , Kerry, Easkey & Enniscrone in Sligo , Bundoran , Tullan , Rossnowlagh and Dooey in Donegal and Biarritz in France.
So you can get to see a lot of remote places around our sceptred isle and beyond.

(Situated in isolated and rugged landscape
between Glenties and Dungloe, around the corner from Lettermacaward in

you can base yourself and enjoy real hospitality at Bill’s hostel,
where if you’re lucky you might also lern how to prepare and cook
mussels and periwinkles properly. A real gem and highly recommended).
